Orthodox National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham established at the Abbey

Updated: Aug 22, 2019

We are pleased to announce that the Undercroft of Buittle Castle, home to the Abbey, is now in use for liturgical purposes. A Shrine to Our Lady of Walsingham has been established there, and we are pleased to offer a perpetual lamp burning in front of the ancient image of the Blessed Virgin perpetually. For the time being, the services of the Abbey are to be conducted in this space. The space is vaulted and dimensionally the same as that of the original Holy House established at Walsingham. It has been established as the Orthodox Shrine in Scotland to Our Lady of Walsingham. Visitors and pilgrims are most welcome to avail themselves of this beautiful and holy space.
