Vocations

Throughout the history of the Church, men and women have been called to serve the Lord in different ways. Some find their vocation in the married state, others in lay service to their parish communities. Still  others are called to clerical ministry or the monastic life. The Diocese of Whithorn welcomes Vocation enquiries from prospective postulants who seek to live according to the Patristic Tradition of the Orthodox Church, both Eastern and Western.

For one who feels called to this vocation, we would first advise him to follow Our Lord's advice, to 'Come and See'. Although we strive to consider all enquiries in a spirit of prayer, taking into consideration each person's individual circumstances, it should be noted that  prospective candidates must generally meet certain initial criteria.. The candidate should be male, an Orthodox Christian, of appropriate age, and be free from all obligations both personal and financial. In addition to this he should have lived a good and moral life for a number of years and, normally, have shown that he is capable of earning his own living. He should also be of good physical and mental health.

Vocations enquiries should be directed to the Vocations Director:
