A joyous pilgrimage from Maine

Writer: MeT BritianMeT Britian

On the 28th of  February the communities in Dumfries and Galloway were very pleased to welcome a group of pilgrims from the USA. Arriving in the morning, the ladies visited Dumfries Cathedral for prayer, followed by a communal luncheon, and then headed to Botel Abbey to pray at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. Below are photos from them, and a write-up.

'Today the women’s pilgrimage of St. Euphemia was blessed to visit the newest Antiochian Church & Monastery in the British Isles & Ireland! Our pilgrimage (which began at the Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Essex, England) led us to Fr. James Cavendish, the Monastic Brotherhood of Sts. Alban & Æthelwold, and the Cathedral of Our Lady & St. Ninian.

It’s hard to express how grateful we are for the hospitality of Fr. James and the monastic brotherhood. A litany was prayed in the reliquary chapel and we were guided to all the holy sites by the fathers. In the center of Dumfries their cathedral doors are open and the Orthodox faith is shared with the world. At Buittle there is a beautiful monastic chapel under the protection of Our Lady of Walsingham for the monks. Alongside the chapel, there are large castle grounds for hospitality and labor. Knowing that we have such a beautiful witness to God within our own Antiochian Church in Scotland is a great joy to us!

Thank you to Fr. James, Fr. Augustine, Fr. John, Br. Ambrose, Br. Ninian, Br. Ian (Fr. Johannes), and all who serve and keep the Divine Office! We will most certainly return again very soon.'
